Intaglio Printing - Printmaking

                      

 

I was attending a recent art and craft fair and had the opportunity of trying Intaglio Printing. 

Lesley Boyd, Artist, brought her vintage printing press (above, my daughter had a go too) to show how it all works.

 

Firstly, I had to etch a design in to thick card.

  

The card was then sealed with French Polish (above), which gave it a yellowish colour

The card is then passed through a heavy roller and voila - this is the final image. 

The design is of bracken hedging.

 

I loved having a go and getting a better understanding of the process.  The print is now proudly framed and hanging in my house.

Bespoke Glass Awards

One of my latest commissions - the Highland Business Women's Club Glass Awards.

 

I have been a member of the group for 3 years and have had the opportunity of designing and creating their Awards. 

 

The Awards featured their corporate colours (blues and lilac), hbwc and triangular logos. 

 

This is a bespoke service offered by us at Lazy Daisy Glass.

 

 

The guest speaker was Kate Adie, BBC Correspondent and Presenter.  She was fantastic and everyone loved her stories - the whole audience were captivated by her talk! 

 

The Club also asked me to make a glass item for Kate Adie.  I felt very honoured and privileged to be asked and made her a Hummingbird Bowl (above).  The item had to be kept a reasonable size/shape as she was travelling by air and had to fit into her luggage.

Craftseller Magazine - I've been Featured

Near the end of last year, I submitted some information to Craftseller Magazine with the hope that the magazine would run a feature on my business.  Well, here it is!  February edition No 20.  I am pleased to say that they have featured my business - and a good write up too. 

I was contacted through Swanky Maison, an online site that sell my glass goodies.  Their PR team had organised it and Swanky contacted myself asking if I would like to participate - are you kidding!  Free advertising and a chance to get my brand and products out there.  I was absolutely thrilled and jumped at the chance. 

These things don't happen very often, so it's a great opportunity.

Angel's Share - Whisky Barrel Oak Staves

 

Design update - our Candle holders now come in a wood plinth made from recycled whisky barrel oak staves.  As we live in Whisky Country in North East Scotland, it made sense to use the oak staves.  The screen print image of the Angel Wings also suits the theme - Angel's Share. The Angel Share is the amount of alcohol which evaporates from the casks during maturation. This can be around 2% per year.

 

 

We also burn the oak staves in our log burner - there's a few barrels in that stack!

 

The Angel Wings Candle Holder will soon be available in the Glen Moray Distillery, Elgin.

Giveaway Time - Swallows Candleholder

This is not a new design, but rather of a re-design product.  The candleholders are now made using recycled whisky barrel oak staves as the wood plinth.  Locally sourced barrel staves are cut, sanded and oiled for these beautiful candeholders.  Candleholders available  from my website here.

Merry Christmas

Life has been very hectic this Christmas season.  Lots of events and since the launch of my new website, internet orders have been coming in thick and fast. 

However, I'm pleased to say that all orders are now posted and I'm hanging up my glass cutter for some time.  Two weeks in fact!  Never been away for that long before. 

Wishing all my customers and friends a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.  I'll leave you with this snowy photo of a local road in Moray.
